Event actions

The event action tells AthTek NetWalk what to do when it detects an event. Actions are executed to defend intrusion (by executing a program) or warn network manager (by playing sound or sending email). There are three available types of event actions, Play Sound, Execute and Send Email.

Play sound action

Play sound action action lets you play an audio *.wav file. Then set the options shown in Figure 14-7 and described below.
Figure 14-7. Play Sound action

Netwalk action play Event actions

The options are described as follows:

  • Sound File: Lets you choose an *.wav file.
  • Play: Lets you test selected *.wav file.
  • Assign To: Specify which alarm severities are associated with this action. Check the boxes of each event severity for which you want this action to take place. When an event of a checked severity is detected and action type of this evnet is Global Action, AthTek NetWalk takes the specified action. For example, if you enable only the Critical severity, AthTek NetWalk will only play this particular sound when a Critical event is detected and its action type is Global Action.

Note: Assign To options only available in Global Action. And in other actions, this option has the same meaning.

Execute action

Execute action lets you run a program that you specify. Then set the options shown in Figure 14-8 and described below.

The options are described as follows:

  • Command: Select an executable/batch/script file by clicking browse button.
  • Arguments: Specify which of the following arguments to pass to the selected execuable/batch/script file.

Send Email action

A Send Email action sends an email to one address when a particular event severity is detected. Then set the options shown in Figure 14-9 and described below.

The options are described as follows:

  • SMTP Server: The address of the SMTP server used to send this email.
  • Account: The sender’s account on this SMTP server.
  • Password: The sender’s password on this SMTP server.
  • Receiver: The address that appears in the From line of this email.
  • Sender: The address to which this email will be sent.

Note: The Account and Password can be empty if the SMTP server you used to send Email doesn’t require authentication.

Cut Off action

A Cut off action cuts off the source host when a particular event severity is detected. There is no option for cut off action.
