Physical layer

At the Physical layer, AthTek NetWalk provides statistics describing the actual transmission of network data, including counts for various packet and error types (such as broadcasts, multicasts, and CRC errors). Counts are provided both globally and for each individual detected MAC address. In addition, AthTek NetWalk tracks VLANs at the Physical layer.

You view displays at the Physical layer by clicking Physical in the Layers panel. In response, the Main panel updates with the following tabs of Physical layer displays:

The overview page

The Overview page provides a wide variety of counters for different packet and error types observed during the monitoring or post-capture analysis session. Figure 6-8 shows an example of the Overview panel.

The VLAN page

The VLAN page provides counters and statistics describing the traffic seen on each detected VLAN. AthTek NetWalk analyzes 802.1Q tags to provide information on detected VLANs.

The MAC Host page

The MAC Hosts page provides counters and statistics describing and quantifying the traffic for each detected MAC address on the network. Figure 6-10 shows an example of the MAC Hosts panel.
