About capturing packets

In contrast to real-time monitoring, AthTek NetWalk’s capture feature stores traffic that passes your capture filters into a capture buffer for postcapture analysis. Capturing data can provide you with the level of detail you need to solve tough network problems. Once you have a buffer or trace file of captured data, you can use AthTek NetWalk’s post-capture analysis capabilities (described in Post-capture Analysis) to see what is really happening on your network.

As with all AthTek NetWalk features, you use the toolbar to start working with capture features. The toolbar provides controls for starting and stopping capture (as shown in Figure 4-1).
